Legal Aid Services Reach Over 1.3 Million Beneficiaries Across the Country

Dhaka: The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal assistance to 1,34,770 prisoners across the country from 2009 to November 2025. This information was disclosed in the organization’s latest report published on its website.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the report highlighted that the total number of beneficiaries under this service has reached 13,55,423, consisting of insolvent and justice-seeking individuals. Initially, the activities began at the district level, but legal aid services have now expanded to include Legal Aid Offices in all 64 districts, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and a national helpline call center.

The report also detailed the distribution of services among the beneficiaries, noting that 30,072 individuals received services through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 11,12,097 through the 64 District Legal Aid Offices, 29,785 through the Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and 1,94,269 through the National Helpline Call Center.

NLASO operates under the Legal Aid Services Act, 2000, with the goal of providing free legal assistance to financially insolvent, helpless, and justice-seeking people. The organization functions as a government-run service body under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
