Faqir Mahbub Calls for Swift Completion of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant

Vienna: Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has stressed completing the remaining work of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) project in the shortest possible time, while maintaining international nuclear standards and the highest level of safety. He made the emphasis during a meeting with Director General of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev on the sidelines of the 70th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Austria, said a ministry press release today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Director General of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev assured that the technical and strategic support to the project would continue uninterrupted. At the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the latest progress of the RNPP and on ensuring electricity supply to the national grid in the shortest possible time.

Both sides agreed on accelerating the construction work of the RNPP as per the set targets in order to move toward speedy power generation. At the end of the meeting, Faqir Mahbub Anam and Alexey Likhachev exchanged mementos as a symbol of the friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Russia. Members of the delegations of both countries were present at the bilateral meeting.
