Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division filed 2,855 cases against motorists for violating traffic laws during a crackdown across the capital on Sunday. The operation aimed at reinforcing traffic discipline and ensuring road safety in the bustling city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Traffic-Ramna division filed 137 cases, which included actions against 18 buses, one truck, four covered vans, 14 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 48 motorcycles. Meanwhile, Traffic-Lalbagh registered 160 cases, targeting 13 buses, 11 trucks, three covered vans, 10 CNGs, and 83 motorcycles.
Elsewhere, the Traffic-Motijheel division reported 285 cases, with the majority, 170, involving motorcycles. Traffic-Wari was responsible for 386 cases, with a breakdown of 26 buses, 25 trucks, 34 covered vans, 44 CNGs, and 158 motorcycles. Traffic-Tejgaon added 211 cases to the tally, including 10 buses, two trucks, 10 covered vans, 25 CNGs, and 98 motorcycles.
Traffic-Mirpur filed the highest number of cases, totaling 621, which included 50 buses, 14 trucks, 53 covered vans, 55 CNGs, and 293 motorcycles. Traffic-Uttara followed closely with 615 cases, targeting 49 buses, 13 trucks, 22 covered vans, 51 CNGs, and 259 motorcycles. The Traffic-Gulshan division filed 440 cases, including 55 buses, five trucks, 12 covered vans, 46 CNGs, and 122 motorcycles.
During the enforcement drive, 613 vehicles were dumped and 368 others were towed, as reported by the DMP. The DMP Traffic Division has announced that such drives will continue as part of their efforts to maintain traffic discipline in the capital.
