Rangpur: Inquilab Moncho’s Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) unit and student leaders have staged a sit-in programme here demanding justice for the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, a frontline fighter of the July uprising.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Inqilab Moncho leaders, activists, and ordinary students gathered at Shaheed Hadi Square, previously known as the DC intersection, in Rangpur metropolis at 3 pm on Sunday. The participating student leaders demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the murder of Hadi, including the mastermind behind the crime.

During the protest, the demonstrators chanted various slogans such as ‘Justice, justice, justice – we want justice for Hadi’s murder’, ‘Who are you, who am I – Hadi Hadi’, ‘We will all become Hadi – we will speak in the faces of bullets’. These slogans reflected their unwavering demand for justice and their solidarity with the slain leader.

Several prominent figures addressed the sit-in programme, including BRUR unit Inqilab Moncho convener Zahid Hasan Joy, former Rangpur metropolitan member-secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Md Rahmat Ali, former spokesperson Khandaker Nahid Hasan, convener of Rangpur metropolitan Jatiya Chhatra Shakti Imtiaz Ahmed Imti, member-secretary Hazim ul Haque, joint member-secretary Farhan Tanbir Fahim, organiser Mahbub Hasan Tanmoy, and Shimanto Islam.

The sit-in programme was organized in protest against the assassination of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who was also an aspiring candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Polls.

Meanwhile, although the Inquilab Mancho had previously announced blockade programmes in divisional cities across the country, the protesters in Rangpur opted to take up positions at Hadi Square instead of blocking roads to minimize public inconvenience.
