Woman Dies, Eight Injured in Gaibandha Road Accident

Gaibandha: A woman lost her life and eight others sustained injuries following a road accident in the Balkchar area on the Bogura-Rangpur Highway in Gobindaganj Upazila on Saturday evening. The tragic incident involved a collision between a battery-run van and a microbus.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victim was identified as Alta Begum, 65, the wife of the late Azahar Ali from Puntair village in Mohimaganj Union. Alta Begum and her family were returning home from a post-marriage ceremony in Kamardaho Union when their van was struck from behind by a microbus. The impact caused Alta Begum to be thrown to the ground, resulting in her immediate death.

Upon receiving the information, Fire Service personnel arrived at the scene, recovering Alta Begum’s body and rescuing the injured. The injured were initially transported to the Upazila Health Complex. Subsequently, four of them were referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for further treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Gobindaganj Highway Thana, Mozaffar Rahman, stated that the body was handed over to Alta Begum’s relatives after completing the necessary legal formalities.
