Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury to Take Oath as 26th Chief Justice Tomorrow

Dhaka: Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury will take oath as the country’s 26th Chief Justice tomorrow. President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath to Justice Chowdhury at Bangabhaban at 10 am, as confirmed by Supreme Court’s Public Relations Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury was appointed as the country’s 26th Chief Justice on December 23. The appointment was made by President Shahabuddin under the powers granted by Article 95 (1) of the Constitution. Chowdhury, previously a judge of the Appellate Division, is set to succeed in this crucial judicial role.



Chowdhury’s legal career began in 1985 when he was enrolled in the District Judge Court. In 1987, he became an advocate of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court. His judicial career advanced when he was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court Division on August 27, 2003, and became a permanent judge two years later.



On August 12, 2024, Chowdhury was elevated to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. His academic credentials include LLB (Hons) and LLM degrees from Dhaka University, along with a Masters degree in international law from the UK.
