Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today stated that the public is anticipating the accountability of Awami League members for their alleged wrongdoings, rather than supporting the party’s call for a hartal. Rizvi made these remarks during a financial assistance event in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, where aid was offered to a disabled rickshaw puller named Mamun, under the directive of BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi criticized the Awami League, highlighting past incidents such as the July uprising, where he claimed innocent individuals, including a young boy named Ahnaf, were harmed under directives from Sheikh Hasina. He accused Hasina of prioritizing her political power over the welfare of women and children. Rizvi also criticized law enforcement agencies for allegedly failing to act against criminals in Dhaka, contrasting this with their previous actions against BNP supporters.
Rizvi further accused law enforcement agencies of being responsible for the deaths of individuals like Abu Sayeed and Mugdho, urging the state to hold these agencies accountable for past violence. He also criticized Salman F. Rahman, an adviser to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for alleged corruption in the banking and stock market sectors, calling for expedited legal proceedings against him.
He also questioned the integrity of Sheikh Hasina’s family, specifically mentioning her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and alleged discrepancies found by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding a purported foundation. The event, chaired by Atiqur Rahman Rumon, convener of Amra BNP Paribar, was also attended by BNP treasurer and Advisory Council member M Rashiduzzaman Millat.
