Dhaka: Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today highlighted the pivotal role of the youth in shaping a new Bangladesh, driven by their energy and determination to confront and overcome oppression, injustice, and corruption from the previous fascist regime. She delivered these remarks while serving as the chief guest at the Eid Reunion and New Year Festival-2025, organized by the Women Entrepreneurs Association at the Cosmopolitan Club in Baridhara, as stated in a press release.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sharmeen S Murshid emphasized the ongoing efforts to rebuild the nation under the interim government’s leadership, headed by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. She criticized the former regime for becoming disconnected from the populace, a disconnect that ultimately triggered the historic July uprising. Murshid highlighted the significant involvement of women in this movement, drawing parallels to their contributions in the 1971 Liberation War.

The event, presided over by Shizan Khan, President of the Women Entrepreneurs Association, also featured speeches from Farzana Khan, Deputy Managing Director of the SME Foundation, and Salma Khaled, President of the Gulshan Ladies Community Club. Reflecting on the youth-driven July movement, Murshid recalled the rallying cry: “No quota, victory of merit,” which epitomized the youth’s resolve to combat corruption and injustice.

Murshid warned that if the current political culture remains unchanged, the youth will rise again, unstoppable in their pursuit of justice. She urged leaders and officials to remember their duty to the nation, particularly in honoring the young lives lost in the struggle for change.

Furthermore, Sharmeen S Murshid announced new initiatives by the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare aimed at empowering five million girls through vocational training. These programs will include training in sewing, handicrafts, and scientific and mental development, with the goal of fostering a self-reliant generation.
