17 Wild Animals Rescued from Sherpur Zoo

Sherpur: A total of 17 wild animals were rescued from Ghazni Recreation Center Zoo in Jhenaigati upazila of the district last night. A team from the Forest Department’s Wildlife Crime Suppression Unit, led by Inspector Nargis Sultana, conducted a drive at the recreation center and successfully rescued these animals from the mini zoo.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the rescued animals include one python, four forest cats, one civet (locally known as gandhagokul), one hawk, five monkeys, one fox, and four deer. The operation was carried out with assistance from Assistant Conservator of Forest SB Tanvir Ahmed Emon, District Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Suman Kumar, and other officials from the department.



The rescue operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat wildlife crime and ensure the safety and preservation of wild animals in the region. The initiative underscores the department’s commitment to protecting biodiversity and preventing illegal wildlife trade.
