Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Nahid Islam has expressed confidence that the influence of youths will continue to shape Bangladesh’s politics and society over the next two decades as a result of the July uprising. “The young generation, emerged through a massive mass uprising, will highly influence the state, politics, and society for at least the next two decades with their thoughts, ideas, and activities,” he stated in an exclusive interview with BSS.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nahid, who played a pivotal role as an Anti-Discrimination Students Movement leader during the July uprising, highlighted the eagerness of youths to contribute to the country despite their lack of experience and other limitations. He noted the global recognition of Bangladesh’s young generation’s efforts to rebuild the country following the end of a prolonged dictatorship.

Nahid, who also advises on post and telecommunication and ICT ministry matters, emphasized the readiness of youths to take on responsibilities and prepare for the future. He expressed optimism that the trust and confidence people have in the younger generation would grow stronger in the coming years.

His remarks come as Bangladesh celebrates a nationwide nearly two-month Youth Festival 2025, organized by the Chief Adviser’s Office in memory of the July Uprising martyrs. The festival, titled “Let’s change the country, Let’s change world,” seeks to foster unity and promote cooperation, while highlighting the contributions of local heroes and change makers.

Nahid praised the sacrifices and resistance demonstrated by youths in 2024 to overthrow fascism, describing it as an inspiring example for Bangladesh and the world. He stated that the government aims to collaborate with youths to develop them into a political generation capable of leading the future Bangladesh.

Highlighting the historical significance of student-led movements in the country, Nahid referred to the ‘2024 Revolution’ as the latest example of this legacy. He asserted the global expectation for Bangladeshi youth to play a crucial role in establishing democracy, creating a discrimination-free society, and safeguarding human dignity.

Addressing the employment issue, Nahid stated that it emerged as a priority for the interim government, which has been making efforts to create jobs and encourage entrepreneurship in response to the uprising’s demands. He recalled that the uprising initially centered around job and employment issues.

Nahid also pointed out the significant decline in societal progress over the past 16 years due to the absence of a proper education system. He emphasized the importance of the government’s focus on improving the country’s education sector.
