Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) announced today that Italy has shown a keen interest in recruiting additional skilled workers from Bangladesh. He shared these insights after a bilateral meeting with Matteo Piantedosi, the Interior Affairs Minister of Italy, held at the Home Ministry’s conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Matteo Piantedosi is currently on a two-day official visit to Dhaka. Jahangir emphasized that Bangladeshi workers, known for their hard work, significantly contribute to Italy’s economy. He highlighted Italy’s interest in recruiting skilled workers from Bangladesh through legal channels, while discouraging unauthorized sea crossings with visas from other countries.
Jahangir further stated that Italy has requested Bangladesh’s cooperation in curbing illegal immigration and human trafficking, indicating a desire to collaborate closely to address these challenges. He urged the Italian minister to consider legalizing Bangladeshis who have already entered Italy unlawfully.
During the meeting, the prevention of illegal immigration and measures to dismantle immigration-related crime networks were discussed. Both parties explored strengthening bilateral cooperation in crime prevention and justice processes, alongside potential bilateral agreements in the security sector.
Notable attendees from Bangladesh included Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Home Ministry, Md. Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, and Senior Secretary of the ministry, Nasimul Ghani. The Italian delegation comprised Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro, Diplomatic Adviser of the Ministry of Home Affairs Macro Villani, Deputy Head of Cabinet Sabina Madaro, and Central Director of Immigration and Border Police Claudio Galzerano.
