Dhaka: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today urged government agencies, private organizations, owners, and labor bodies to collaborate in efforts to ensure maritime safety. ‘Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country. Therefore, I request everyone to be aware and cautious while navigating the waterways. At the same time, I urge boat drivers to operate their vessels with caution by using safety equipment correctly,’ he said in a message on the occasion of ‘Maritime Safety Week’.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yunus welcomed the initiative of the shipping ministry and shipping department to observe ‘Maritime Safety Week-2025’. He emphasized that this year’s theme, ‘Pollution-free rivers and safe vessels, healthy environment, protected lives’, is especially pertinent during the upcoming monsoon season and within the current context.

This affordable and environmentally friendly transport system significantly contributes to the country’s economic development. The chief adviser mentioned that his interim government is committed to providing all civic services to the people. To achieve this, the government has undertaken dredging of waterways and is advancing the use of technology to enhance institutional and infrastructural capacity in the maritime sector.
Yunus called upon all stakeholders to adhere to maritime laws to protect the environment and prevent maritime accidents. He expressed optimism that Maritime Safety Week-2025 will play a crucial role in raising public awareness to ensure safe maritime navigation.
