Cox’s bazar: The interim government is set to host an international conference in Cox’s Bazar from August 24 to 26, focusing on the Rohingya crisis. This event aims to bring the issue to the forefront of the international community’s attention.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will attend the conference on August 25. The announcement was made by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy. The conference will provide a platform for the Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar to voice their concerns, hopes, and aspirations directly to international organizations and foreign representatives.

The government is actively working to address the Rohingya crisis, maintaining close discussions with various countries and organizations. Alam revealed that this conference is the first of three large-scale events planned by the government, with the subsequent conferences to be held in Doha and New York later in the year.

Delegates from 40 countries, diplomats based in Dhaka, and representatives from UN agencies are expected to participate in the Cox’s Bazar conference. A special session with Rohingya representatives is scheduled for August 24. During the three-day event, a comprehensive roadmap will be presented for the safe repatriation and funding for the displaced Rohingyas.

The Rohingya crisis stems from systemic violence and persecution in Rakhine State, alongside ongoing conflict in Myanmar, forcing hundreds of thousands to seek refuge in Bangladesh. To date, nearly 750,000 Rohingyas have escaped violence in Rakhine and taken shelter in Bangladesh.

Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad also attended the briefing.
