Tongi: The first phase of the 58th Bishwa Ijtema, a major congregation for Muslims, is scheduled to commence tomorrow along the banks of the Turag River in Tongi. This year’s Ijtema, a gathering organized by the Tablig Jamaat, will unfold in three phases. The initial phase will last until February 2, followed by the second phase from February 3 to 5, and the third from February 14 to 16.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Ijtema will start with ‘Aam Bayan’ (general sermons) delivered by distinguished scholars after the Fazr prayers on the first day and will conclude with Akheri Munajat (final prayers) on the last day. Supporters of Maulana Zubair Ahmed are expected to participate in the first and second phases, from January 31 to February 5, while followers of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi will join the third phase from February 14 to 16.

An influx of devout Muslims from across the nation has already begun to gather at the Biswa Ijtema venue on the Turag River’s banks. Additionally, the event draws foreign devotees from various countries annually. In anticipation of the first phase, the government has implemented extensive security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the attendees.

The security arrangements at the Ijtema site, which spans 160 acres, have been notably enhanced. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam emphasized the robust security measures after reviewing the preparations at the Tongi ground. To ensure comprehensive security, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and other law enforcement and intelligence officers, both in uniform and plainclothes, have been deployed extensively.

The entire Ijtema area is under CCTV surveillance, with control rooms and archways installed at every entry point. A dedicated control room is monitoring the overall security around the clock, with additional oversight from the RAB headquarters. Regular check posts are set up at strategic locations, including Cheragali Bus Stand and Tongi Kaliganj Road, to inspect vehicles and passengers.

In terms of medical support, RAB’s medical center at the Ijtema site is operational and accessible to all attendees. A sufficient number of RAB medical teams and ambulances are available to provide continuous medical services to the participating Muslims.
