Bangladesh and Pakistan Explore Cooperation in Shipping and Labour Sectors

Dhaka: Shipping and Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain stated today that exchanging experiences and expanding cooperation in the shipping and labour sectors could yield tangible benefits for the people of Bangladesh and Pakistan. He made these remarks during a meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider at his secretariat office.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties, trade expansion, and cooperation in shipping, maritime affairs, and labour sectors. Dr Hossain emphasized Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening relations with neighboring countries based on mutual understanding and shared interests. He also highlighted the potential for joint initiatives in regional connectivity, safe maritime navigation, and skilled manpower development.



Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider lauded Bangladesh’s advancements in the shipping sector and expressed interest in working closely to enhance bilateral relations. He highlighted the necessity of enhanced cooperation between the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) and the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to boost maritime transport collaboration. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of technical cooperation on port development, including the Matarbari Deep Sea Port.



The meeting was attended by Shipping Ministry Secretary Dr Nurunnahar Chowdhury and other senior officials of the ministry.
