Dhaka: Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed presented the national budget for the 2025-2026 financial year, proposing an allocation of Tk 17,000 crore as a subsidy for the agriculture sector. This allocation aims to cover the expenses related to fertilizer and other agricultural incentives.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the finance adviser made this announcement during a pre-recorded budget presentation broadcast on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar. The subsidy allocation is intended to continue supporting fertilizers and other agricultural inputs in the next fiscal year. In the current fiscal year, these inputs and cash incentives have been provided under the ‘Agricultural Rehabilitation Assistance’ program.

The finance adviser highlighted that small and marginal farmers affected by floods have received aid through this program. He also emphasized the government’s initiatives to rationalize the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, aiming to protect biodiversity and maintain soil quality while ensuring an environmentally sustainable approach.

Dr. Ahmed mentioned that farmer groups and NGOs are actively involved in the production, marketing, and extension of organic fertilizers to promote their use. Furthermore, the government is advocating for environment-friendly technologies to prevent water wastage during irrigation, optimize the use of surface water, and ensure the sustainable use of groundwater.
