Dhaka: University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed today emphasized the importance of enhancing the professional capacity of new university teachers to improve the quality of higher education and ensure world-class education in the country. “Modern training can ensure the quality of teachers, which will directly bring positive changes in classroom management and the teaching-learning process of students,” he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chairman made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the 3rd and 4th batches of basic training for new teachers, held last night at the Central Training and Conference Centre of Bangladesh Open University (BOU). UGC organized the training under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project.
Professor Mamun Ahmed highlighted that the long-term residential training organized for university teachers serves not only as a means of acquiring knowledge but also as an opportunity to build a strong professional network among teachers from different universities. He noted that this exchange of experiences will play a crucial role in addressing future academic and administrative challenges.
Presiding over the function, BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shiddiqur Rahman Khan underscored the importance of such training for enhancing the professional skills of young teachers and urged the participants to become enlightened and ethical educators.
The event also featured speeches from UGC Members Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Professor Dr. Mashuma Habib, Professor Dr. Mohammad Ayub Islam, and World Bank Consultant Mahmudul Haque. HEAT Project Director Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman and Course Director Professor Dr. Mohammad Zahir Raihan also contributed to the occasion.
A total of 59 new teachers from 33 public and private universities across the country participated in the four-month basic training. BOU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sayeed Ferdous and UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam were also present at the event.
