Dhaka: Terming Bangladesh as a promising destination for investment, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has invited foreign entrepreneurs to invest in the country. He highlighted the government’s emphasis on expanding private sector participation in development activities during a meeting with US Ambassador in Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion between Mirza Fakhrul and Ambassador Christensen at the Secretariat focused on various aspects of bilateral cooperation and development priorities. The minister underscored the importance of international cooperation in Bangladesh’s ongoing development activities, stressing the need for increased technical assistance, research, and investment.
Mirza Fakhrul identified specific sectors requiring investment, including water supply, agriculture, infrastructure development, and rural communication. He acknowledged the USA’s significant role in strengthening the capacity of research institutions in the region and expressed optimism that this cooperation would expand further in the future.
Ambassador Brent T. Christensen emphasized the importance of coordinated initiatives in sectors of mutual interests. He particularly called for enhancing bilateral cooperation in agriculture, energy support, and renewable energy sectors, including solar panels.
Following the meeting, both sides expressed hope that Bangladesh and the USA’s development and progress would accelerate further through mutual cooperation and partnership. Present at the meeting were Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hassan and Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Mohammad Showkat Rashid Chowdhury, among others.
