Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today lodged a complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against seven individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over his alleged enforced disappearance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the complaint also names former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former inspectors general of police AKM Shahidul Haque and Benazir Ahmed, former director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center Major General (sacked) Ziaul Ahsan, former DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, and former chief of detective branch of police Monirul Islam as accused parties. The complaint was filed by Salahuddin, accompanied by party lawyers Barrister Badruddoza Badal, Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Barrister Nasiruddin Ashim, and Barrister Kaiser Kamal, at the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of the ICT.

Salahuddin went missing from the Uttara area of the city on March 10, 2015. He was later found in the Indian state of Meghalaya’s hill station Shillong on May 11, 2015. Indian police, upon finding the BNP leader wandering in the town, filed a case against him under the Foreigners Act, as he was unable to produce valid documents. An Indian court indicted Salahuddin on July 22, 2015, and he was subsequently released in 2018.

Despite his release, Salahuddin was required to remain in India until August 11, 2024, as he awaited approval from Indian authorities to return.
