Dhaka: The Forum Panel emerged victorious in the biennial election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), securing a commanding win by clinching 31 out of 35 director posts. The election results were disclosed by the election commission last night.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Forum Panel, spearheaded by Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), dominated the election, while the Sammilito Parishad Panel managed to win only four director positions. The election took place simultaneously in Dhaka and Chattogram, with Forum Panel securing 25 director posts in Dhaka and six in Chattogram. Conversely, the Sammilito Parishad Panel won one director post in Dhaka and three in Chattogram.

The BGMEA election comprised a total of 35 director posts, with 26 allocated to the Dhaka region and nine to the Chattogram region. The voting process commenced at 8:00 am and concluded at 5:00 pm without any interruptions.

In Dhaka, voting was conducted at the Radisson Blu Water Garden hotel,
where 1,528 votes were cast out of a total of 1,631, though 103 votes were invalidated. Meanwhile, at the Chattogram center, 248 out of 303 votes were cast, with six votes marked as invalid.

The most recent BGMEA election prior to this was held in March last year. However, a change in leadership occurred when the then-president, SM Mannan Kochi, resigned in October following the fall of the Hasina government in August. Subsequently, the government appointed Md Anwar Hossain as the BGMEA administrator to oversee the election process.
