Sharsha: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today called on the citizens of the nation to remain vigilant against attempts to spread confusion and create disorder concerning the referendum and the July Charter. He highlighted that certain individuals and political parties are attempting to manipulate the situation for their political gains.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister made these remarks during a brief gathering after launching the re-excavation work of the historic Ulashi Canal in Sharsha upazila. He warned that such individuals and parties are trying to mislead the public and divert the referendum’s verdict, which could potentially disrupt the government’s initiatives aimed at public welfare.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government’s projects, such as Family Card for women, Farmer Card, canal excavation, employment programs for youth, reopening of closed mills, healthcare services in villages, and tree plantation initiatives, would be jeopardized if chaos ensues. He urged citizens to play a responsible role in safeguarding the nation’s progress.

Tarique Rahman assured that the July Charter, signed by political parties, will be implemented gradually. He referenced the mass uprising of August 5 as a testament to the people’s will and warned against attempts to undermine their decisions.

Highlighting the government’s development initiatives, the Prime Minister expressed optimism about positive changes in citizens’ lives if these programs are executed successfully. He rallied the nation to contribute to building the country, urging the 20 crore populace to engage actively in national development.

Pointing to global examples, he cited Singapore’s transformation over 50 years as an inspiration, expressing confidence in Bangladesh’s potential for similar progress. Rahman reiterated BNP’s commitment to changing the people’s fate and recalled past attempts to destabilize the country during BNP-led initiatives.

He highlighted the historical significance of the Ulashi Canal, originally excavated by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and the benefits its re-excavation would bring to local farmers and residents. The government plans to plant trees along the canal’s banks post-excavation.

Rahman also touched on educational advancements for women, noting past achievements and future goals of providing free education up to the degree level and stipends for high-achieving female students.

The event saw the presence of several ministers, including Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain and Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee. The Prime Minister formally inaugurated the canal re-excavation by cutting soil and planting a sapling, marking the commencement of this significant project.
