Thakurgaon: BNP Secretary General and Thakurgaon-1 constituency candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today highlighted the growing interest and enthusiasm of voters as the national election approaches. “We have noticed during the election campaign that there is widespread interest and enthusiasm among the people regarding the election. This enthusiasm, particularly among women, is very encouraging,” he told reporters at his residence here around 11:00 am.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that the deprivation of voting rights over the past 15 to 16 years has turned the upcoming election into a beacon of hope and aspiration for the electorate. He acknowledged past concerns over electoral credibility, citing excessive rigging and election engineering that had created doubts about the proper conduct of elections.
Fakhrul mentioned that while initial concerns were expected, the situation has largely stabilized, reducing the likelihood of election engineering this time. He expressed optimism that the current environment would allow for a fair election.
The BNP Secretary General conveyed his party’s expectation that the election would help restore and revive democratic practices across the state and society. He also praised the effectiveness of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s election tours and expressed hope that these efforts would strengthen the party’s political movement.
Encouraging voters to exercise their rights freely and peacefully, Fakhrul stressed the importance of communal harmony. “We are telling people that voting is their right and that Hindus and Muslims should all go to polling centres together. The administration is also conveying the same message. We are hopeful that voters will turn out in large numbers,” he said.
District BNP General Secretary Poygam Ali, Al Mamun, Tarikh Adnan, and other party leaders were present during the occasion.
