Rajbari: The government today strongly condemned the killing of a man in Rajbari mob lynching and rejected claims circulating on social media and in some media outlets that the incident was communal in nature while vowing to bring perpetrators under law.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the government issued a statement through the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, highlighting misleading information being spread on social media regarding the incident that took place on Wednesday night in the Pangsha Police Station area of Rajbari district. The statement emphasized that preliminary investigations and police reports indicate the incident was not a communal attack but arose from violent circumstances linked to extortion and terrorist activities.

The deceased, identified as top criminal Amrit Mandol alias Samrat, reportedly went to the area to demand extortion money and was killed during clashes with local residents. Samrat had been accused in several serious cases, including murder and extortion, filed in 2023, and there were arrest warrants against him.

The statement further detailed that police have detained one of Samrat’s associates, Selim, at the scene, recovering a foreign-made pistol and a pipe gun. Three cases have already been filed in connection with the incident. The government condemned the killing and reiterated its stance against any illegal activities, mass beatings, or violence, promising legal action against all involved.

Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the incident. The government also expressed concern over attempts by certain groups to portray the incident as a communal attack by focusing on the religious identity of the deceased, labeling such efforts as baseless and ill-motivated.

The government warned that such propaganda could disrupt communal harmony and worsen the law and order situation, urging all parties to act responsibly and avoid spreading misleading or provocative statements. It reaffirmed its commitment to establishing the rule of law and justice, emphasizing that any attempts to disrupt peace and stability in Bangladesh will be met with firm action.
