Dhaka: A court in Dhaka has granted a five-day remand to Aminul Islam Raju, 37, who is alleged to have assisted the prime suspect, Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud, in fleeing the country following the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi. Hadi, an independent candidate in the 13th National Election from the Dhaka-8 constituency and the convener of the Inqilab Moncho, succumbed to a gunshot wound at a hospital in Singapore on December 18.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Detective Branch of Police, who is also the Investigation Officer of the case, presented Raju before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The Inspector sought a 10-day remand for Raju’s interrogation. However, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid, approved a five-day remand instead.

Raju was arrested earlier today from the Mirpur section-11 area of the city. The arrest follows the shooting incident on December 12, when miscreants shot Hadi at Box Culvert Road under Paltan Police Station and fled the scene. Subsequently, on December 14, Abdullah Al Jaber, the Member Secretary of Inqilab Moncho, filed a case at Paltan Police Station on charges of attempted murder, invoking multiple sections of the Penal Code.

On December 20, following a petition by the Investigation Officer, Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the addition of section 302 (murder) to the case. The case statement reveals that on December 12, around 2:20 pm, Hadi was targeted while heading towards Suhrawardy Udyan after campaigning. Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud and an unidentified accomplice, both on a motorbike, shot him from point-blank range.

Initially, Hadi was treated at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was airlifted to Singapore for advanced medical care at Singapore General Hospital, where he passed away at 9:45 pm on December 18.
