Chattogram: E-Car service has been introduced on Chattogram University (CU) campus to make the students’ communication and transportation inside the campus more easy, safe, and faster. CU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yahiya Akhter formally inaugurated the electronic shuttle service for students at Zero Point on the campus.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Maa Enterprise, a commercial venture, and ‘Our Green Campus’, a campus-based organization, have jointly introduced the first ever such modern transportation service for internal movement of the students. CU administration sources said the service has been introduced on a test basis with six colorfully decorated vehicles, each with a seating capacity of 13-17. It is anticipated that at least 40 such vehicles will be engaged based on the service performance.

The e-car service will initially operate on two routes: one from Zero Point to the Faculty of Biology, and another from Zero Point to the Law Faculty and Social Science Faculty via Sohrawardy Hall and Gate No. 2. The fare for different destinations ranges from Tk. 5 to Tk. 15 per person.

CU students have faced challenges for a long time while moving from one place to another inside the vast, hilly campus due to the scattered locations of different academic and administrative establishments. The students usually incur significant transportation costs using CNG-run auto-rickshaws and manually driven rickshaws.

Speaking at the inaugural function, VC Prof. Yahiya Akhter stated that the authority decided to introduce the e-car service to alleviate the students’ transportation struggles. He expressed hope that students could attend classes on time and perform other academic activities by taking advantage of the newly introduced automated services.

The inauguration was attended by Pro-VC (Academic) Prof. Md Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro-VC (Admin) Prof. Md Kamal Uddin, Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof. Enayet Ullah Patwari, and Proctor Prof. Tanvir Md Haider Arif.
