Dhaka: Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has allocated Taka 2,423 crore for the development of Youth and Sports in the proposed budget of the 2025-26 fiscal year. This allocation represents an increase of Taka 842 crore 21 lacs and 63 thousand compared to the previous fiscal year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the proposed budget designates Taka 1,440 crore 37 lakh for development projects, while Taka 982 crore 63 lakh is earmarked for operating issues. The development projects funded by this budget include the construction of mini stadiums (phase 2) at the upazila level, further development of the Narail Birshrestha Noor Mohammad stadium, table tennis bhaban, and indoor and volleyball stadium construction projects. Other projects include the modernization of BKSP training facilities, development of physical infrastructure facilities, and a comprehensive technology-based integrated resource management project for poverty alleviation (phase 3).
Additionally, the budget focuses on technology empowerment for rural youth through the “Technology Empowerment Center on Wheels” project (phase 2), and feasibility studies for new projects. It aims to build capacity in the Department of Youth Development to provide IT training across 64 districts, create employment through freelancing training in 48 districts, and modernize training facilities at the central human resource development center and in Savar, Dhaka.
The budget also emphasizes expanding opportunities for women and youth in Cox’s Bazar through the “Leaving no one behind” project, fostering economic resilience and acceleration for NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), and enhancing life skills education at youth training centers nationwide. It also aims to foster self-employment among unemployed youth, encourage voluntary youth participation in developmental work, award successful youth, provide grants to youth organizations, conduct research on youth activities, and involve youth in nation-building activities to create skilled human resources for national development.
