15th Meeting of Bangladesh China Joint Commission Focuses on Strategic Economic Cooperation

Dhaka: The 15th meeting of the Bangladesh China Joint Commission was held today in the capital, aiming to elevate bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation to a new strategic height. The Bangladesh delegation was led by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser of the Ministry of Finance, while the Chinese delegation was headed by Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, with both sides expressing their commitment to enhancing cooperation. Comprehensive discussions were held on the implementation status of the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus during their last high-level visit to China in March 2025, as stated in a press release by the ERD.



The meeting also explored ways to promote unimpeded trade and achieve balanced development. Key topics included strengthening cooperation on industrial and supply chains, enhancing ongoing project management, rationalizing terms of Chinese assistance, and expanding cooperation in various sectors, with special attention to jute.



Both sides emphasized the importance of fair and balanced trade policies to ensure sustainable development amidst current global economic turbulence and complexities. A Memorandum of Understanding on ‘Strengthening Economic Cooperation in Industrial and Supply Chains’ was signed, with Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed and Wang Wentao signing on behalf of their respective governments.



The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to further strengthen bilateral relations, and both parties agreed that the 16th meeting of the Joint Commission will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time.
