Dhaka: The University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman, Professor Dr. SMA Faiz, today urged the European Union (EU) to broaden the scope of higher education for Bangladeshi students within its member countries. Addressing a program as the chief guest on ‘Erasmus Information Day’ for Bangladesh at the UGC auditorium, he emphasized the need for increased opportunities, including scholarships and joint research ventures.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Faiz expressed his commitment to strengthening the ties between UGC and the EU, hoping for enhanced cooperation that would create more educational opportunities for Bangladeshi students. He highlighted the benefits Bangladeshi students gain through the Erasmus Plus Scholarship, which allows them to connect with various universities across Europe and assess their academic capabilities.
Faiz, who also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, noted that European countries are advancing through research and innovation. He underscored the importance of these opportunities for Bangladeshi students in enhancing their skills and knowledge.
Michael Miller, the Ambassador of the European Union to Bangladesh, also spoke at the event. He praised the Erasmus Plus Scholarship and Fellowship as a successful program that not only enhances the abilities of young Bangladeshi students but also generates significant employment opportunities.
The event was attended by teachers, students from 20 universities, and officials from both the UGC and the EU.
