Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul announced that the trial proceedings against Sheikh Hasina officially commenced today, focusing on the events surrounding the student-led mass uprising movement. Formal charges have been filed by the prosecution team at the International Crimes Tribunal, marking the beginning of the judicial process.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Asif Nazrul confirmed the development on his verified Facebook page, stating that the tribunal and its investigative wing have been diligently preparing for this phase of the trial. The proceedings are related to the alleged killings during the uprising, with Chhatra Dal leader Wasim being noted as one of the first casualties.

The case, which involves allegations of extrajudicial killings and crimes against humanity, will be broadcast live on various media platforms, including BTV. Between July and August, multiple allegations were leveled against the then-Awami League government and its leaders, as well as certain members of the administration and law enforcement. These include charges of genocide and crimes against humanity, purportedly committed to suppress the student-public movement.

Dr. Asif Nazrul conveyed confidence in the trial’s outcome, asserting, “Inshallah, Sheikh Hasina and others accused will be proven guilty through a fair and transparent trial.” The families of victims such as Abu Sayeed, Mugdho, and Wasim now anticipate justice as the trial progresses.
