PIRGANJ: The Shaheed Abu Sayeed Foundation (SASF) distributed 1,000 blankets to impoverished individuals facing harsh winter conditions at a ceremony held at Jafarpara High School ground in Pirganj upazila. The event underscored the foundation’s commitment to humanitarian aid and social development initiatives in the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the SASF was established on December 8 in Babanpur, the birthplace of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, as a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting those in need and fostering community development. Abu Sayeed, a promising student at Begum Rokeya University’s Department of English and a student coordinator, was killed by police gunfire during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 16 in Rangpur city.
The blanket distribution ceremony was attended by Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Most Khadija Begum, who served as the chief guest. She was joined by SASF President and Abu Sayeed’s brother, Md Ramjan Ali, who presided over the function. Other notable attendees included SASF Vice-President Md Taijul Islam, General Secretary Md Abu Hossain, Joint General Secretaries Md Rezaur Karim and Md Mohidul Islam, Organising Secretary Md Ruhul Amin, and Finance Secretary Md Rafikul Islam, along with executive members.
In a conversation with BSS, SASF General Secretary and Abu Sayeed’s brother, Abu Hossain, emphasized the foundation’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of cold-affected individuals. He also highlighted past initiatives, noting that the foundation distributed Taka 2.10 lakh to 210 orphans and severely impoverished individuals in the region, providing each with Taka 1,000 on its inaugural day.
