Dhaka: A court here today sent nine leaders and activists of the activities-banned Awami League (AL) and its front organisations to jail in a case filed over their alleged flash procession in the capital's Gulshan area on September 11. The accused include Rehana Pervin, Saiful Islam, Jewel Shikdar, Nazim Uddin, Sahed, Shanto Sheikh, Harun Maijvandari, Khaled Mahmud Foysal, and Sofikur Rahman.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to keep them behind bars till the end of the probe. The case documents state that the accused initiated a flash procession on Road 3 in Gulshan-1 around 11:50 am on September 11, during which they allegedly exploded a couple of crude bombs and caused panic among the residents.
The police subsequently filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act, citing the procession's disruptive and illegal nature. The court's decision to detain the individuals highlights ongoing efforts to maintain order and address activities linked to banned organisations in the region.
