Dhaka: Security has been tightened across the country, particularly in the capital, ahead of Christmas Day, the largest religious festival of the Christian community, to ensure peaceful celebrations. Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that the government has taken all necessary measures to allow Christians to celebrate Christmas with due religious fervor and in a festive environment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser emphasized that necessary security measures have been taken to ensure peaceful and festive celebrations, with appropriate arrangements in place at every church. The posh areas of the capital, including Gulshan and Banani, have been brought under stringent security coverage to avert any untoward incidents. Law enforcement agencies have also enhanced regular patrols on key roads across Dhaka to make the security arrangements foolproof.
He further mentioned that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been instructed to take necessary steps for improved traffic management during the festive period. Meanwhile, the DMP has imposed a temporary ban on the use of fireworks, crackers, lanterns, and gas balloons in the capital to ensure a peaceful and solemn celebration of Christmas.
According to a DMP notification, the ban will remain in force from 6:00 pm on December 24, 2025, to 6:00 am on December 26, 2025. The decision was taken in the interest of public safety and to maintain law and order during the festival. DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has sought the full cooperation of city residents to help ensure that the holy Christmas festival is celebrated smoothly and safely.
The police have emphasized that compliance with the directive will help maintain a calm, secure, and festive atmosphere across the capital.
