Rangpur: The anti-discrimination student movement held a protest march and rally here today demanding the banning of Awami League or to face tougher programs and immediate trial of the July 2024 genocide. Hundreds of students of different educational institutions of the city gathered in the College Road Lalbagh area and participated in the protest march that passed through the main streets in the city this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rangpur representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement, including Imran Ahmed, Nahid Hasan Khandker, Motawakkil Billah Shah Fakir, Yasir Arafat, Imtiaz Imti, Sajjad Hossain, Ali Hossain, and Dr. Jamil, addressed the rally against the Awami conspiracy. The students’ representatives claimed that those accused of killing Shaheed Abu Sayeed and other martyrs in the anti-discrimination student-people movement are hiding under the administration’s protection.

The representatives alleged that the accused in the cases of student-crowd killings duri
ng the anti-discrimination student-people uprising have not been arrested. The students demanded that the Awami League be banned as a dictatorship party and called for the swift legal action against those involved in the July 2024 massacre.

They expressed concerns that the lack of legal action against the accused indicates they are shielded by the administration. The protestors insisted on identifying and prosecuting those within the administration who are providing protection to these individuals.

The students warned of implementing tougher measures if their demands are not addressed. They cited past incidents where Chhatra League politics was banned due to terrorist activities, arguing that Awami League should now face a similar fate. The students accused Awami League leaders of fleeing the country following a public uprising, yet continuing anti-state activities.

The protesters claimed that Awami League has become politically bankrupt and is attempting to regain influence by associating with internation
al figures such as Donald Trump. They emphasized that there is no room for rehabilitating fascism, genocide, or the leadership of Sheikh Hasina with the support of foreign leaders.

The students and local populace remain vigilant against any conspiracies, vowing to continue their movement until the aspirations of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and Shaheed Mugdha are realized.
