Dhaka: Senior Secretary of the land ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed emphasized the significant impact that effective land development tax collection could have on the nation’s economy. He highlighted that if taxes are accurately collected from organizations under various ministries, it would contribute to economic growth. Saleh Ahmed spoke at a workshop focused on organizational land development tax collection, held at Bhumi Bhaban in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Land Reforms Board organized the workshop titled ‘Possible Measures of Organisational Land Development Tax Collection.’ The event was presided over by the Chairman of the board, Abdus Sabur Mandol. It also saw the participation of the Chairman of the Land Appeal Board, Muhammad Ibrahim, the Director General of the Department of Land Records and Survey, Maha. Moniruzzaman, along with officials from various ministries, divisions, and organizations.
ASM Saleh Ahmed noted that the newly established law sets the collection period for
land development taxes from July 1 to June 30. This alignment with the national fiscal year is intended to streamline the accounting management process for individuals and organizations, facilitating easier and faster tax collection.
Addressing the challenges faced in land tax collection, Saleh Ahmed pointed out that outdated land records and lack of mutation are major hurdles. Additionally, he mentioned the coordination gap between land offices and government organizations in areas such as assigning holding numbers and calculating taxes. A shortage of manpower also contributes to these challenges, he added.
The Senior Secretary further suggested that a collaborative effort between land offices and government organizations could lead to successful land tax collection.
