Dhaka: Chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Muhammad Tajul Islam announced today that the probe report in a case filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is anticipated to be submitted on Monday, May 12. The case accuses Sheikh Hasina of committing crimes against humanity and genocide during the July-August mass uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tajul Islam expressed hope that the ICT investigation agency would file its probe report on Monday, marking a significant step towards the commencement of Sheikh Hasina’s trial following the submission of formal charges. Tajul also mentioned that the prosecution is set to file formal charges in the Chankharpul massacre case within the next week.
The ICT probe body had already submitted a comprehensive 90-page report on the Chankharpul massacre case on April 20, implicating eight individuals, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman. This report was compiled over six months and 13 days and includes testimonies from 79 witnesses, along with 19 video footages, 11 newspaper reports, two audio files, 11 books or reports, and six death certificates.
The Chankharpul massacre, which occurred on August 5, 2024, resulted in the deaths of Shahriar Khan Anas, Mahdi Hasan Zunaid, Md Yakub, Md Rakib Hawlader, Md Ismamul Haque, and Manik Miah due to police firing in the Chankharpul area.
