NBR Achieves Record Revenue Collection in First Quarter of FY26

Dhaka: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reported an unprecedented revenue collection for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025-2026 (FY26), spanning July to September. The total revenue amassed during this period reached Taka 90,825 crore, marking the highest ever collected by the NBR in the first three months of any fiscal year, as stated in a press release today.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this achievement reflects a growth rate of 20.21 percent compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year 2024-2025. The revenue collected in the first quarter of FY26 was Taka 15,270 crore higher than the collection during the same timeframe the previous year. For context, the total revenue collections in the first three months of the past fiscal years were Taka 75,554.78 crore in FY 2024-25, Taka 76,068.43 crore in FY 2023-24, and Taka 68,635 crore in FY 2022-23.



The July-September quarter of 2025 set new records in all three major revenue collection categories: Local Level VAT, Income Tax and Travel Tax, and Import and Export Sectors. The Local Level VAT sector led the collections with Taka 34,819 crore, showing a growth rate of 29.74 percent from the previous year’s corresponding period, which saw Taka 26,838.49 crore. Previous years’ first quarters recorded collections were Taka 28,445.41 crore (FY 2023-2024) and Taka 24,546.65 crore (FY 2022-2023).



Income Tax and Travel Tax collections reached Taka 28,478 crore, surpassing the collections from the first quarters of previous years: Taka 24,080.82 crore in FY 2024-2025, Taka 23,751.31 crore in FY 2023-2024, and Taka 21,016.20 crore in FY 2022-2023. This reflects an 18.26 percent growth rate over the same period last year.



The Import and Export sector contributed Taka 27,528 crore during the July-September quarter of 2025, an increase of Taka 2,892.53 crore over the Taka 24,625.47 crore collected during the same period in FY 2024-2025. This sector recorded an 11.74 percent growth rate in revenue collection compared to the preceding year.



The NBR credits this upward trend in revenue collection to its dedicated personnel’s efforts. It remains committed to continuing this growth trajectory through strategies aimed at expanding the tax net, ensuring compliance, preventing evasion, and recovering evaded revenue for the government treasury.
