Nalchhiti: Nalchhiti Launch Ghat in Jhalakathi district has been named after Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi. Adviser of the Ministry of Shipping and Labour and Employment Brigadier General (retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain today unveiled the name plaque at a ceremony in Nalchhiti.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser paid tribute to the memory of Shaheed Hadi, highlighting his role as a fighter in the July mass uprising and his significance as a symbol of the protesting youth and a spokesman for Inqilab Mancha. He stated that naming the traditional launch ghat after Hadi, a proud son of Nalchhiti who sacrificed his life for the country, would inspire future generations with patriotism, courage, and responsibility.
The adviser further emphasized the interim government’s focus on developing river communication infrastructure to connect marginal and remote island communities with mainstream development. He stressed that such infrastructural development would continue to improve the living standards of the coastal people.
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has completed renovation and modernization works of the Shaheed Osman Hadi Launch Ghat. Local people from different walks of life expressed gratitude to the government for renaming the ghat, considering it a significant addition to Nalchhiti’s history that would raise awareness among the youth about justice, protest, and citizens’ rights against domination.
Earlier, a Water Ambulance named ‘Shaheed Osman Hadi’ was handed over to Monpura Upazila administration in Bhola to ensure healthcare for coastal people. Additionally, the adviser inaugurated a newly constructed launch ghat at Durgapasha union in Bakerganj upazila of Barishal this morning, noting that it would make travel easier, safer, and more affordable for locals, contributing to the expansion of agriculture and trade.
