Dhaka: Law adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has announced that the interim government has initiated plans to build a dedicated modern hospital for the expatriate community. This initiative aims to recognize the significant contributions of expatriate workers to the nation’s economy and ensure their well-being.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Asif Nazrul made these remarks during the ‘Remittance Fighters Day’ event held at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital. He emphasized that expatriates have supported the July movement at great personal risk, and their sacrifices often remain unnoticed. Dr. Nazrul highlighted the crucial yet underappreciated role of expatriates in the nation’s socio-political landscape.
The government, aiming to express gratitude to these expatriates, plans to establish a hospital exclusively for them before the end of its term. Additionally, Dr. Nazrul revealed that a new labor agreement is being negotiated with Saudi Arabia. This agreement promises improved terms for Bangladeshi migrant workers, offering facilities and protections not currently available to workers from neighboring countries like India and Pakistan.
Dr. Nazrul advised aspiring expatriates to gather detailed information before working abroad to avoid uncertainty. He encouraged those with capital to consider starting a business at home as an alternative. Furthermore, he urged expatriates to remember that they represent Bangladesh abroad and should refrain from any activities that might tarnish the nation’s image.
The ‘Remittance Fighters Day’ program acknowledged the vital role of expatriates in bolstering the country’s economy and supporting democratic movements from abroad.
