Dhaka: Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin announced that Bangladesh’s reciprocal tariff rate adjustment to 20 percent on products exported to the United States has bolstered its position in global trade.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir Uddin expressed optimism that the reduction of US tariffs on Bangladeshi goods to 20 percent would maintain the country’s competitive edge in the US market. He noted that while the current rate is favorable, expectations were that the tariff might fall below 20 percent. This statement followed the formalization of a significant trade agreement with the United States.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam shared this development on his verified Facebook page, highlighting the positive outcome of the negotiations. The US government’s decision to lower the tariff from 35 percent to 20 percent was officially announced by the White House following intensive discussions in Washington DC. The negotiations involved officials from Bangladesh and the Office of t
he United States Trade Representative, which is responsible for managing US trade policy.
