Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced on Monday that the Bangladesh government has decided to revise the police uniform by restoring the previous shirt design and replacing the trousers with khaki. This decision was revealed during a briefing with reporters at the Secretariat after the inaugural meeting of the national committee focused on the coordination, management, and law enforcement concerning forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals, known as Rohingyas.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister responded to questions about the progress of the uniform change by acknowledging that the existing police attire had not been embraced widely, either by the police force or the public. He stated, “We have observed that the current uniform has not satisfied many within the police force and is not widely accepted. It is not quite suitable.”

Salahuddin Ahmed explained that the decision was made after receiving requests from police personnel. The government is considering how to implement a more traditional dress code. “We have retained the earlier shirt used nationwide, but replaced the trousers with khaki. After detailed discussions, this has been finalised as a more acceptable uniform,” he added.

The minister noted that it will take time before the new uniform is introduced, as the production of materials and preparation of the uniform are still underway. In response to a query about a journalist being prevented from traveling abroad on Sunday, Salahuddin Ahmed mentioned that he would investigate the matter.
