Chattogram: Daily Amar Desh editor Dr. Mahmudur Rahman has urged top stalwarts of anti-fascist forces, including political leaders and students, to maintain the rock-solid unity witnessed on August 5, and to remain vigilant against any plots to rebound by ousted fascist forces. Mahmudur Rahman made this appeal while speaking at a function organized by the Chattogram Press Club (CPC) to accord him a reception and facilitate an exchange of views with the media.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was presided over by Zahidul Karim Kachi, the Chattogram chapter Convener of the Bangladesh Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad (BSPP). It was held at the CPC auditorium in the morning. Among the speakers were Syed Abdal Ahmed, Media Reform Commission Member and Daily Amar Desh Executive Editor, M Abdullah, Managing Director of Bangladesh Sangbadik Kallyan Trust and a journalists’ leader, Abu Darda Zubayer, Moffashal editor of the daily, and several BSPP leaders including Dr. Khurshid Jamil Chowdhury and Eng. Selim Md Jane Alam. Additionally, CMUJ President Mohammed Shah Nowaz and General Secretary Saleh Noman, along with senior journalists Moinuddin Quadery Shawkat, Shamsul Haque Haidari, Mustafa Nayeem, Golam Mowla Murad, and Shahnewaj Riton, also contributed to the discussion.

Mahmudur Rahman highlighted that a neighboring imperialist regime, unwilling to accept its defeat, has begun to play strategic games following the ousting of the fascist Sheikh Hasina regime. This includes using various cards, such as spreading rumors on social media about the resignation of Prof. Yunus’s government. He emphasized that these fallen regimes and their fascist allies are working persistently to create divisions among the anti-fascist forces, particularly among the political parties and students who spearheaded the July uprising.

He expressed concern over the recent disagreements among top leadership, noting that such disputes are frustrating and unexpected, and could potentially enable the ousted forces to bounce back. Mahmudur Rahman stressed that the failure of anti-fascist forces to maintain unity and spirit akin to August 5 has emboldened their adversaries to incite conspiracies over minority issues, labor unrest, and agitation by Ansars.

Reflecting on the geopolitical implications, he remarked, “If we could have maintained the unity of August 5, India would have accepted the changes in Bangladesh.” He underscored the crucial role of political leaders in preserving unity, given their maturity and experience compared to students. He warned that history would not forgive the nation if it failed to capitalize on the July-August revolution due to internal divisions that could reverse the achievements of the mass uprising.
