Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said: Cox’s Bazar would be developed into an international-standard tourist destination through the establishment of justice, good governance, and the elimination of corruption. Addressing an election rally at Baharchara Gol Chottor, he highlighted the region’s untapped tourism potential, comparing it to destinations like Singapore and Shanghai, and criticized the corruption that has hindered its development.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Shafiqur emphasized the significance of the upcoming election, stating it offers a chance to restructure the state and end a political culture marked by authoritarianism. He described the election as pivotal, contrasting it with previous ones in 2008, 2014, 2018, and 2024, and stressed its potential to fulfill the aspirations of the July martyrs and fighters, paving the way for a new Bangladesh.

Dr Shafiqur also addressed women’s rights, assuring that they would be honored and secured at home, on the streets, and at workplaces, with the state covering their educational expenses. These measures, he noted, should be seen as rightful entitlements rather than discrimination.

He further pledged that government offices would operate impartially, not as extensions of any political party, ensuring justice for all, regardless of caste, race, religion, or position. He also proposed the establishment of a standard university in Cox’s Bazar to enhance educational opportunities.

Abdullah Al Farook, the Ameer of Cox’s Bazar Jamaat-e-Islami and the candidate for the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, echoed these sentiments at the rally. He promised to dismantle the syndicate system and ensure justice-based governance while upgrading the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway to six lanes to improve local infrastructure.

He also pledged to establish a public university in Chakaria, South Chattogram, to address the lack of higher education institutions in the area. He emphasized the importance of transforming the youth into a productive force by ensuring employment and building a prosperous, secure, and discrimination-free Bangladesh.
