Dhaka: India, China, and Pakistan have extended invitations to Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, to pay official visits to their countries at mutually convenient times. The invitations were presented by the envoys of China and India during separate meetings with Dr. Rahman at the Foreign Ministry.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, extended an invitation on behalf of Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for Dr. Rahman to visit New Delhi soon. Similarly, the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, conveyed an invitation from the Chinese Foreign Minister for Dr. Rahman to visit China at a suitable time.
During the meetings, the envoys congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for leading the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to a significant victory in what they described as one of the most transparent elections in Bangladesh’s history. They also congratulated Dr. Khalilur on his new role as Foreign Minister.
The Chinese Ambassador expressed China’s strong support for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s ‘Bangladesh First’ policy, indicating China’s intention to enhance bilateral cooperation. Dr. Khalilur emphasized the need to advance the Bangladesh-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and urged increased Chinese involvement in the Rohingya repatriation process.
The Indian High Commissioner highlighted his government’s eagerness to collaborate with the new Bangladesh government to strengthen bilateral ties further.
