Dhaka: Praising Bangladesh’s ‘Bangladesh First’ policy, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen stated that any attempt to undermine cooperation between China and Bangladesh, or with any South Asian country, is doomed to fail. He addressed reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following meetings with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Ambassador Yao emphasized that the cooperation between Dhaka and Beijing does not target any third party and should not be influenced by external forces. Discussions between the two nations over the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project are ongoing, with hopes for its commencement soon. The Ambassador expressed optimism about the project’s progress, indicating that both countries will continue to collaborate on this initiative.
The Chinese Ambassador also commented on the recent election in Bangladesh, describing it as smooth and orderly, and a reflection of democratic victory. He noted that high-level visits between Bangladesh and China would persist, underscoring China’s commitment as a comprehensive strategic cooperative partner to deepen relations with Bangladesh. He affirmed support for the new government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in maintaining solidarity, stability, and national sovereignty.
Further, Ambassador Yao acknowledged Bangladesh’s ‘Bangladesh First’ policy and expressed China’s readiness to enhance cooperation across all sectors with the new government. Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman reiterated China’s role as a trustworthy friend and reliable partner, emphasizing Bangladesh’s intention to sustain a friendly policy towards China. The State Minister’s meeting with the Ambassador reinforced the mutual support and equal treatment that have characterized the diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
Both sides expressed readiness to elevate practical cooperation in various fields to a new level, marking another phase in the development of bilateral ties between Bangladesh and China.
