Independence and National Day Celebrated in Rangpur with Calls for Unity and Progress

Rangpur: The Independence and National Day-2025 was celebrated here today, emphasizing the need to build a non-discriminatory, accountable, and self-reliant Bangladesh to fulfill the dream of independence. The district administration, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), BNP and other political parties, educational institutions, sociocultural and professional organizations organized colorful programs to mark this important national occasion.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the celebrations commenced with a 31-gun salute at the Police Lines ground of the city in the early hours. With the break of dawn, the national flag was prominently displayed atop all government, semi-government, private, and public buildings, educational institutions, and other establishments. Floral wreaths were laid at the Central Shaheed Minar in honor of the martyred heroes of the nation.



High-ranking officials, including Divisional Commissioner and Administrator of RpCC Md. Shahidul Islam, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Md Aminul Islam, RpMP Commissioner Md Majid Ali, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Abu Md. Saim, led the wreath-laying ceremony. Subsequently, freedom fighters, political leaders, government department heads, civil society members, and the general public paid their respects.



The Divisional Commissioner hoisted the national flag at Rangpur Stadium, accompanied by the National Anthem, and reviewed the March Past by students, scouts, police, and other service members. The event featured drawing competitions for children themed around the War of Liberation.



Heroic freedom fighters and families of martyred fighters were honored at a ceremony at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium. Special prayers were held at various places of worship for the peace and prosperity of the nation. Improved meals were served to residents of hospitals, jails, and welfare centers.



The main discussion event was also hosted at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium, where the Divisional Commissioner addressed the gathering as the chief guest, with the Deputy Commissioner presiding. The event was attended by notable figures including the DIG, RpMP Commissioner, SP, and heroic freedom fighters who shared their memories of the Liberation War.



The chief guest highlighted the sacrifices made for the country’s freedom and stressed the importance of working towards a prosperous Bangladesh. The Deputy Commissioner in his concluding remarks emphasized the significance of March 26, marking it as a historic day when Bangladesh emerged as an independent nation on the world stage.
