DHAKA: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has mandated the production of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) constable Mohammad Sujan before the tribunal on January 12. This order follows Sujan’s involvement in a shooting incident at a student rally in the capital’s Chankharpul area.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued the order this morning. Prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud stated, “We pleaded to show him arrested in a crimes against humanity case and produce him before the tribunal. Allowing our plea, the tribunal ordered to produce him before it on January 12. The court also ordered to submit a probe report in the case on February 23.”

Constable Sujan is currently in jail after being arrested on charges filed at the Shahbagh Police Station. The incident, which occurred on August 5, involved Sujan using his Chinese rifle to shoot at protesters near Shaikh Burhanuddin Post Graduate College. Video evidence of Sujan firing and displaying joy after hitting individuals quickly spread on social media platforms.

The APBn initially handed Sujan over to the Detective Branch on September 13, after which Shahbagh police took him into custody concerning a murder case linked to the police station. The tribunal’s order signifies an important step in addressing the actions of the constable, which have sparked significant public and legal scrutiny.
