The companies affected by this decision are Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, and Shinepukur Ceramics, according to a press release issued today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the list of appointed directors includes notable figures such as Shahinoor Islam, a professor at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology; Syed Rezaul Karim, chairman of Bengal Overseas; and Sultan Mahmood Bin Zulfiqar, a writer and journalist. Other appointees include Forkan Uddin, president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh; Mirza Aminur Rahman, a freelance consultant; and M Nurul Alam, CEO of MNA Associates.
The diverse expertise of these directors is expected to contribute to the strategic oversight and accountability of the companies. Sheikh Nahar Mahmud, chief consultant of Infinigent Consulting; Brigadier General Shafqat-Ul-Islam; and Anwar Hossain, vice chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau, are also among the appointees. These individuals will serve as independent members on the boards of both Beximco Limited and Beximco Pharmaceuticals.
In a parallel appointment, Shinepukur Ceramics will have a total of seven independent directors. Six of these directors are common to the other Beximco companies, with the exception of Brigadier General Mohammad Mohtashim Haider Chowdhury, who is a new addition to the board of Shinepukur Ceramics. The inclusion of these independent directors is part of BSEC’s broader efforts to ensure better governance and transparency within major corporations in the country.
