Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued a show-cause notice to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Shakil Alam Bulbul, a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), in a contempt of court case. The tribunal, led by its chairman Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, passed the order based on the content of an audio recording in which Hasina allegedly interfered in the judicial process and issued threats to the tribunal.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ICT instructed both individuals to respond to the show-cause notice by May 15, as stated by ICT Prosecutor Gazi M H Tamim. The notice was issued after the tribunal received a forensic report on a recently circulated audio clip on social media featuring the former prime minister.

The leaked audio, which went viral on social media at the end of last year, includes a voice claiming, “I have received a license to kill 227 people.” The voice further states, “227 cases have been filed against me, so I’ve obtained a license to kill 227 people.” The ICT’s investigation agency conducted forensic tests and confirmed that the voice belongs to Sheikh Hasina, according to the prosecutor.
