Dhaka: The High Court (HC) today acquitted BNP chairperson’s adviser Amanullah Aman of charges in an extortion case filed in 2007. A division bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain delivered the verdict, allowing Aman’s appeal against the lower court’s conviction and sentence.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, senior advocate Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and advocate Nazmul Huda represented Aman in the court. The extortion case was initiated by Rafiqul Alam from East Aganagar under South Keraniganj Police Station, who accused Aman of extorting Taka five lakh on March 6, 2007.
The initial judgment from the lower court on May 8, 2008, found Aman guilty, sentencing him to seven years in prison and imposing a Taka one lakh fine. In response, Aman appealed to the High Court, contesting the lower court’s decision, which ultimately led to his acquittal.
