Dhaka: State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque announced today that the government will investigate alleged irregularities involving officials and employees recruited at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) during the past 16 years of the Awami League regime. The announcement was made in response to a supplementary question from BNP lawmaker Mosharraf Hossain in Parliament.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister stated that a probe committee would be established to examine claims of irregular and politically influenced appointments made since 2008. He alleged that individuals were recruited based on partisan considerations and assured that those involved would be identified and exposed following an investigation.

“You will be surprised to know that BCB’s financial and human resources were allegedly used in the past to support a group in depriving people of their voting rights,” Haque said. He emphasized that officials and employees found complicit in such activities would face action after the investigation.

Earlier, Mosharraf Hossain, MP from Bogura-4, questioned whether individuals linked to the alleged misuse of BCB resources during the 2018 and 2024 elections would be held accountable. He claimed that recruitment processes during the previous government favored politically affiliated and unqualified individuals.

In response, Aminul Haque acknowledged that sports, including cricket, had been heavily politicized during the previous administration, leading to stagnation in the country’s sports arena. He assured that the current government is committed to depoliticizing sports following the Prime Minister’s directives.

The state minister also mentioned concerns regarding the personal wealth of some allegedly corrupt BCB officials. Aminul stated that he would request the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to share any ongoing investigation findings with the ministry to present the matter transparently to the public.
